Senior Data and Mapping Engineer

As part of our offshore engineering department you will be surrounded by colleagues within various offshore engineering disciplines. As a (Senior) Data & Mapping Engineer you are supporting the offshore projects with all data intelligence and mapping requirements to support the of the installation part of a NKT Offshore tender or project. 

The Data & Mapping Engineer will analyse and interrogate all data provided by the Client or third parties, organize the data in (GIS) data base and create all deliverables as required by the Lead Installation Engineer or Project Installation Manager. For this, you have a solid technical knowledge related to cable installation such as bathymetric survey, cable installation and seabed intervention technologies & tools.
You will be a part of a highly skilled team, based in the centre of Rotterdam.  NKT’s offshore installation engineering department is highly versatile and regardless of the competences you hold at the moment you will be given the opportunity to broaden your offshore engineering competence. Besides the above you will also support your co-workers as well as driving our further IT development.


Your primary tasks will be: 

  • Marine Survey – check for errors, data overlap and gap analysis of bathymetric survey data, side scan sonar data, UXO survey data and sub-bottom profile data
  • Data management – organize, manage, and keep up to date the (GIS) database and make available for others to use or to share with the Client
  • Mapping – create the various charts such as overview charts, alignment charts, detailed charts, seabed slope charts, wet laydown areas, shore approaches, etc
  • Route Engineering – optimization of the route of a cable in a predetermined corridor. The optimum route is selected based on total cable length, but also avoids various seabed features such as outcrops, boulders and sand waves, avoids man-made objects such as debris and UXO, optimized crossings with existing cables and pipelines, and reduces trenching risks
  • Seabed Interventions – responsible for the drafting and visualizations of seabed interventions along the cable route such as dredging, boulder clearance, rock dumping pre-lay and post-lay, concrete mattresses, interface with HDD, crossings with existing cables and pipelines, etc
  • Responsible to provide or support the various documentation of the processes as listed above
  • Responsible to come to an agreement on project deliverables with Project Installation Manager and the Client such as as-built drawings and GIS databases
  • Responsible to provide offshore support such as to configure template for Daily Progress Report, configure the software for the different subsea tools and for the different subcontractors, roles and authorities
  •  Responsible for the as-laid and as-built data management of offshore operations and subsequent uploading of the operational data to in-house ORAT database

 

Analytical and collaborative engineer with a positive mindset

Additionally, your CV comprises: 

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Marine Engineering or similar
  • Preferably previous experience from similar position
  • Experience in Hydrographic Survey and GeoMatics
  • Proficiency in survey software such as ArcGIS Pro, Navimodel, AutoCAD and AutoChart; experience in Esri packages of 3D and Spatial Analyst are a plus
  • Proficiency in English verbal as well as written
