HTS Project Engineer (m/f/d)

Join the  NKT team that develops the next advanced technology for power cables: high-temperature superconductors! You will be part of an experienced group of NKT specialists with international connections and several collaboration partners in Germany, Denmark and Sweden. You will participate in the design, manufacturing and testing of customer-tailored solutions in exciting new projects.

 

Your Responsibilities:

The HTS core team members have end-to-end responsibility for development and demonstration of an attractive cable system: cable, cryostat, terminations, splices, liquid nitrogen refrigeration, and associated instrumentation and control. Work includes operation and improvement of HTS cable production facilities located in Cologne, Germany as well as end-to-end participation in manufacturing and testing of the HTS cable systems. You will carry out testings of AC and DC properties at the location of project partners, e.g. DTU and fault-current properties in a high-current test lab in the Copenhagen area. Further key tasks are:

  • Conductor high-current testing under steady-state, Transient/FC, with associated modelling
  • Work with materials suppliers and machine shops to procure system components
  • Develop cable installation techniques and procedures
  • Participate in high voltage tests on system components, such as cables and termination parts
  • Work with liquid nitrogen refrigeration systems
  • Support the HTS cable material quality assurance program

 

Your Background:
You have a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Production or equivalent experience and addiotionally practical manufacturing and testing experience with knowledge of HTS. You must be able to interpret and apply industry standards such as IEC Standards for manufacturing and testing. Knowledge of theoretical thermal transient modelling experience is a plus, including FEM (COMSOL), analytical, and/or numerical modelling. Cryogenic experience is a plus. Further important qualifications are:

  • High motivation, sense of urgency and accountability
  • Good communication skills at all levels of the organisation
  • Proficiency in English is a requirement, knowledge of German, Danish or Swedish is a plus
  • Travel is required up to 50 days per year, even if we maximize our use of Skype and electronic collaboration
