NKT has entered an exclusive Preferred Supplier Agreement (PSA) for delivery of the power cable system to the prospective high-voltage DC Champlain Hudson Power Express transmission line in the US. The Champlain Hudson Power Express will facilitate transmission of sustainable hydropower from Canada to New York City in the US. The 1,250 MWs transmission line will become a substantial contribution to the City of New York’s ambitions of transforming its power generation and consumption to come predominantly from renewable sources.

Drive the technical scope commercially 
As a Cable Tender Engineer in our multi-cultural team, you will contribute to designing our world class alternating current (AC) 420kV and direct current (DC) 640kV cable systems to our US and international customers. 

 

In the role as Cable Tender Engineer, you will design the most advanced cable systems on the market in our tenders. You will use both in-house developed and commercially available software to design cable systems in all aspects; electrical, mechanical and thermal. Your calculations make it possible to create cost efficient solutions while adhering to relevant International and US standards. 

You are eager to tailor NKT’s technical offer to customer requirements and applicable standards while maintaining responsibility of risk, budget and schedule. 
You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of experts dealing with all aspects of a commercial offer or the execution of a project, such as commercial, legal, planning and installation activities.

 

Your primary tasks will be: 

  • Driving the technical scope in tender projects
  • Designing high quality and cost-efficient cable systems based on customer’s specifications and all relevant standards
  • Performing calculations for full technical scope including electrical, thermal and mechanical calculations
  • Responsible for cost related tasks to the products, tests and engineering work in tenders
  • Assessing risks and opportunities in tender projects
  • Responsible for understanding and consider customer’s contract/specifications
  • Serving as the technical interface to customer in tender projects

Analytical and collaborative engineer with good communication skills

You are efficient in managing your own time and flexible to adjust to the varying demands of project work. Meeting deadlines and quality criteria is a natural part of your workflow and planning. 

 

Additionally, your CV comprises: 

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accreted College in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics or similar with the preference of specialization in Electrical Power, or thermal analysis or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency and affinity with modern IT tools for engineering, such as Matlab or Comsol
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
